Forgotten Memories - Webmasters: Getting Hits

Are you a webmaster yourself? Are you needing a way of gaining more members, or need a few tips to give your site that extra edge? Well then read on.

If you know how to pretty much code, or fix problems then it would be a good idea to join a local support site, or forum inwhich many people come to get help about their site. Become very active at the support board, helping in every instance that you can. If you place an ad-banner into your sig, with a small quote about your site below it and the ad-banner linking to your site, then many people will see it and they might just join. Also for a few weeks keep the same quote, and a link to your site as your instant messenger name such as in msn messenger if you have it.

Google your sites genre and find sites close to the size of yours. Once you have found quite a few then find out what their affiliation requirements are and contact them about affiliating. Affiliates are a key source to getting your sites name out there!

Unique Content
Be sure that your content is unique to your site, or atleast most of it. If you need to use someone elses then ask the owner of that site first, and if they say no then dont use it! Stealing is not cool, and you can get into trouble for doing so. Especially since other sites probally spend many hours, days, and weeks working hard to make their content. Also it might help if when deciding to make your site you make it about a genre not used often elsewhere. Yugioh, Final Fantasy, etc.. are kind of played out. Shadow Hearts, Grandia, Legends of Dragoon, Gad Guard, etc.. the less famous genres would be a much better site to get started!

Still not getting the hits or members you are looking for? Well then go to Invisionfree and search their board directory for boards such as IFSZ, inwhich they do reviews. Once you have found several of them, sign-up there and make sure to meet the requirements before posting your site up for reviews. Once its reviewed, not only will people read the reviews, but it will also tell you what you need to improve to make your site all the better!

If you are still not getting the hits your looking for, then there is three reasons.
1. You are setting your expectations to high.
2. People arent interested in your sites genre.
3. You havent given it enough time.

Even so, I have not told you every way possible to get hits, there is still quite a few more ways. But for now try joining around 30-40 decent topsites. I have some written below that I consider good for almost any genre you own. But if you join them, be sure to add the code it gives you to your site or you wont be ranked and it would be useless of you to join!
