During your travels on the world map, you will face a random encounter in which the usual battle music is replaced with a plinky plonky tune. This will either be a battle with a friendly creature (see Freindly Creatures section) or with Ragtime Mouse. Ragtime mouse is a fairly odd, dancing, question asking creature acompanied by a floating 'X' and 'O' which represent true and false. Encounters with Ragtime mouse will only be in forests so it's no good looking for him out in the plains and they are supposed to be completely random... or are they?

I'm not sure if this method of finding Ragtime Mouse actually works but it has increased my chances.

First, find a forest and stand on the edge of it (I found that the small forest on the triangle shaped island in the bottom, left corner of the map works best. It's the one that sometimes has a circular shadow hovering over it. Also the forest near Treno works well.)

Next, use the moogle flute to call the Save Moogle and only save if the direction the moogle came from meant that it travelled through the forest.

After saving follow the moogle a few steps, then go back and forth from your original spot until you face a random encounter. It may or may not be ragtime mouse but I found that it usually is. The next time you try you will need to stand in a different section of the forest.

The point of Ragtime Mouse is to ask you questions which you must answer correctly to get prizes. The prize for each correct answer begins with 1000gil and increases after a while. If you answer 15 questions you get a big prize which depends on how many questions you've got right. Here are the questions, which are asked at random:
